Google Classroom

Google Classroom

Google classroom is a great tool to use in the classroom. I strongly believe that there are limits to everything. The abuse of technology can hurt students. For example, I have seen that teachers post everything online and just let students work on the laptop. Students nowadays are writing like they are in first grade. Handwriting is something that takes practice just like organization skills or time management. Teachers should balance technology with actually working with pens and pencils. I am not against technology at all. I am against the abuse of technology by teachers. Just to save time or avoid instruction time is not a fair use of technology. This type of abuse can harm students in the future instead of helping them. Google classroom is a great way to keep communication with students. Some teachers argue that they don't want to deal with students losing their papers. On the last article of week 3 resources, it talks about teachers preferring to use Google classroom to avoid students losing their papers. Teaching students responsibility for their own education is very important to me. When I become a teacher I want to have a balance between handwritten assignments and online assignments.

Brainstorming tool

Brainstorming tool (Bubbl.us)

This week I found a really good tool for brainstorming. I am planning to become a business teacher, and I find this really helpful. In business especially developing a marketing plan, brainstorming is huge because you need to find many ideas to market a product or company. Brainstorming helps gather many different ideas on how to promote a product and then selecting the best idea to create a marketing campaign. Bubbl.us allows users to create a map of ideas and then allows you to share them with others. I can see myself using this in a classroom because I can have students create an account and share their brainstorming map to others in their group. Once they have shared their brainstorming map, students can narrow down to the top 5 ideas to promote their product.

Business classes at my current district.

Business Classes at U-46

When I was in high school, I took business classes because I knew what I wanted to study in college. It has been almost 10 years, and nothing has changed in the business classes. I went to foreshadow my past business classes and other district business classes. Other districts are very involved in the business classes. The district has implemented more hands-on experience for students. High school and middle school students are creating new products and companies and making a pitch to investors. If the students have a great idea, they will get real money to make it a company. I wished my old high school and district would realize how far behind they are compared to other districts.
